Say Aloha to Hawaiian Airlines’ Two New MasterCards That Reward Shoppers

Unsure about which credit card gives you the most bang for your buck, especially if you love to shop?

Then consider the recently launched new Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard. The airline just debuted two credit cards: Its World Elite MasterCard for consumers, and its Business MasterCard for small businesses. In addition to that, each new cardmember with be rewarded with 35,000 bonus HawaiianMiles when they spend $1,000 or more on purchases in the first 90 days, plus a one-time 50% discount on a roundtrip coach companion airfare between Hawaii and North America on Hawaiian Airlines.

Know what I would do if I wasn’t already so happily married? I would get one of these MasterCards, plan my Hawaiian honeymoon, and use the 50% roundtrip coach companion ticket for my husband on my honeymoon trip, from the mainland over to Hawaii. That way, I could save a bundle and still get the Hawaiian honeymoon of a lifetime. Smart, right?

That’s a great deal. But the impressive airline has also taken an extra step: For every new credit card that is activated between today and May 31, 2014, the companies involved in this new MasterCard – Hawaiian Airlines, MasterCard, Barclaycard US and Bank of Hawaii – will do something extraordinary: They will make a donation – up to a total of $100,000 – to the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s special trip that is called Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage.
This special voyage – which translates to “care for the earth” – is a four-year, 47,000-nautical-mile journey around the planet by the Polynesian canoe named the Hokulea. The Hokulea is powered by the wind, guided by the stars, and based on the fantastic culture of the ancient — and legendary — Polynesian navigators. The aim of the venture is to inspire a global movement to care for and protect the earth’s cultural and natural resources.

Besides this gift towards global sustainability, the two MasterCards also offer other wonderful advantages. For example, the World Elite MasterCard includes, among many benefits:

$100 companion discount on your credit card’s account anniversary for roundtrip coach travel between Hawaii and North America on Hawaiian Airlines

A complimentary first checked bag for the primary cardmember when you use your card to purchase a ticket directly from Hawaiian Airlines

$100 credit in-flight credit towards meals and onboard entertainment, for Pualani Platinum and Pualani Gold HawaiianMiles members

Some of the other posh perks include World Elite luxury travel benefits that feature on-call trip advisor, first-class amenities and a global VIP access.

I love all-things-Hawaiian, and I always have. My husband and I fly Hawaiian Airlines as much as we can, as the spirit of aloha on every flight is unlike any other airline, right down to the passion-orange-guava juice that they always serve. (Yum!) These positive experiences about Hawaiian Airlines are also something that we also hear about from other travel writers, who are on the road all the time. And even more impressive, Hawaiian Airlines has led all U.S. carriers in on-time performance for EACH of the past 10 years, from 2004-2013, as reported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

To apply for your MasterCard, visit any of Bank of Hawaii’s 67 branches, or apply at www.HawaiianAirlines.com, but you must be a member of the airline’s loyalty program to do so.

Then – let the shopping begin! I know I would be using my card at ABC Stores, at Outrigger, Four Seasons and Fairmont hotel properties throughout Hawaii, at all the best restaurants including Alan Wong’s, Duke’s, Nick’s Fishmarket and Sarento’s, and in Maui at Warren & Annabelle’s. To The Shops At Wailea – are you ready? And Sephora in Honolulu — I’m so there!
