Salon Capri: The Best Gets Put To The Test

How to get Hollywood highlights? Well, if you’re smart, and you live in the Boston area, you get yourself over to Salon Capri, which has several locations including one in Legacy Place, Dedham. This salon has won “Best of Boston” from Boston Magazine too many times to count, and has legions of adoring fans. In fact, I sat next to one such fan at the shampoo bar, during my visit. This lady drives all the way from Easton, Mass., and has been doing so for the past 20 years. That’s right – 20 years. “I wouldn’t go anywhere else,” she told me. “Salon Capri is the best.” Indeed, the salon’s walls are covered not only with their awards, but also with articles about the salon, featured in prominent newspapers and magazines. If you’ve got an upcoming trip — or honeymoon — you’ll want to visit Salon Capri for all your haircare needs, so that every day you’re away is a Good Hair Day!

Salon Capri is a full-service salon, and I met with senior stylist Jill Dineen, who took excellent care of me. I like to be a bubbly champagne blonde, and Jill handled my highlights – and lowlights – with aplomb. She used a L’Oreal Platinum lightener that is ammonia-free for the highlights, plus L’Oreal Richesse in numbers 7 and 8 for the lowlights. Her technique on me, she told me, was to use a “demi-permanent” coloring that lasts longer than semi-permanent color, and would not show any lines of demarcation when growing out.

The highlight was a breeze, and the aluminum foil was on and off faster than you can say, “Voila!” Next came a lovely Kerastase shampoo and conditioner plus an awesome scalp massage by Holly.

Next, Jill gave me a much-needed trim, designed to add body and fullness to my hair, and complement my rectangular face. Your satisfaction is guaranteed — it’s the salon’s policy to give you a re-do in any event that you are not satisfied with your results. How smart is that?

Besides offering standout cuts and color Salon Capri also offers facials (with G.M. Collin products) that I love, plus waxing, makeup application, plus manicures and pedicures. A bit more on G.M. Collin: This Canadian brand offers all the key ingredients – plus a little je ne sais quoi – to make beautiful skin a breeze. This boutique brand has won a slew of awards, including kudos for its Aquamucine Cream SPF15. No matter where you travel in the world, G.M. Collin is your passport to pretty.

No matter where you live, as a beauty writer, I strongly suggest making Salon Capri your haircare destination. Visit the salon, make yourself gorgeous, and then you can shop in Legacy Place at great stores, eat at wonderful restaurants, and even catch a movie. Now that’s the perfect day!

And when you exit Salon Capri with A-lister hair like Gwyneth or Reese and you find yourself dodging the paparazzi – well, don’t say we didn’t warn you!
